Six questions by Gayle Draper to help you reflect on your career and possible actions you can take to make it better.

No, don’t quit your job.

Here’s a summary of what Gayle Draper wrote:

😃 How happy are you at your workplace?

Does your job give you intellectual, creative and social opportunities for growth each day?

No?

Consider exploring community involvement with your organisation; you get to gift your time and knowledge while acquiring skills that have been identified in your career plan.

👍 Do you like where you work?

Are you able to share a smile and some laughter with colleagues during your work day?

If you feel left out, Gayle says to consider try creating some fun through activities that encourage participation, sharing of food, social and recreational opportunities.

🛠 Do you enjoy the workday and your daily duties?

Give yourself the gift of knowledge by completing an assessment like DISC (and Belbin). It can help you become a happier person, an impactful team member and manage your stress better.

👨‍💼 Do you see your future unfolding where you work?

The author of the article also suggests having a date with yourself.

Get to know your work preferences and strengths so you can be ‘well-positioned, more resilient, happier, fulfilled and grateful’.

🎓 Do you need to address any skill gaps?

I agree with Gayle that volunteering is a great way to learn new skills and showcase those skills on your résumé and LinkedIn profile.

If you’re in Singapore, consider exploring myskillsfuture.gov.sg for an array of courses relevant to your career. Tap on the training grants and fundings too if you’re eligible.

If you’re a member of the National Library of Singapore, tap on your free access to Udemy Business to upskill yourself.

Of course there’s also LinkedIn Learning and Coursera.

👩‍🏫 Do you need a partner and accountability person?

Work with a career coach as you align your strengths, behavioural leaning, values and drivers with your career plans.

🤔 Before you go, consider what the author says:

“Take time during the holiday season to reflect, create a career wish list and decide if the gifts you’ve presented on your résumé and LinkedIn profile are the gifts you want to use from today onward. It is never too late to edit your value proposition and showcase different strengths.”
